8 Tips For Dining Out With Your Dog

The only thing better than enjoying a lovely meal outside during the summer is getting to bring your favorite furry friend (or two) along for the adventure. After you’ve checked + triple checked that the restaurant welcomes puppers, it’s time to prepare for your adventure. Here’s some tips on how to keep your tail-waggin’ best friend happy + safe, creating a positive experience for everyone.

  • Choose the right location: Look for outdoor seating areas that provide enough space for your dog to sit or lie down comfortably. Avoid crowded spots where your dog may feel overwhelmed.
  • Go for a walk first: This not only cuts down the chance of having an accident at the table, but exercise also releases endorphins that will make your pup much happier + more relaxed during your outing.
  • Make sure they have water: This one seems like a no-brainer, but when you’re running late and rushing to get out the door, it’s easy to forget. Most restaurants will provide a bowl for water if you ask, but just in case, you should always pack your own.
  • Let them settle: Allow your pup to settle before ordering or starting your meal.
  • Keep them occupied: Consider your pups favorite ways to pass the time and bring that with you to help keep them entertained. This could be as simple as a chew toy, a special treat, or even just a favorite blankie to lay on and take in all the sights.
  • Be considerate of others: Remember that not everyone may be comfortable around dogs or may have allergies. Respect their space by keeping your dog close and not allowing them to approach other dinners at their table.
  • Always keep an eye on your pup: While enjoying your meal, constantly check in on your dog. Watch out for signs of distress or discomfort and be prepared to leave early if your dog is not having fun.
  • Savor the moment: Dining out is meant to be a fun experience so make sure to take time to enjoy the adventure with your furry best friend.
